A courious thing that I have found. =)
The action "to smoke" in English pronunciation "smoking" is the reason for which a kind of garment it's called like that.
During the 19th century the habit of smoking became popular, a little reserved in those days, exclusively to the gentlemen and that were doing in select environments and high meetings of society where this garment was dominant. This way, a relation was established between "smoking" and the dinner-jacket, esmoquin.
Since already we speak about the dinner-jacket, I'm going to speak about the garments that constitute this suit.
1. Jacket. Of black, dark blue color, garnet or white.. Variable according to the place and the epoch of the year. The Most used colour is black. It could be straight or crossed , with round lapels of wide opening.
2. Shirt. White or of a color marfíl very clear. Already be of thread, smooth. Low neck and double fist for the "twins".
3. Bow tie. Black, of bow, though also the made ones are admitted.
Also it can be navy blue or "burdeos" depending on the jacket that men dress.
4. Sash. In it sedates, to be right with the bow tie. In case of dressing sash it is not possible to take jacket.
5. Trousers. Always of equal color that the jacket, except that of summer or average labels that dresses in black trousers. Of classic cut, and with a tape of sedates wings.
6. Socks. Thin, of it sedates or thread and blacks.
7. Shoes. Blacks, of cords and of gloss. Are admitted black shoes of gloss of classic cut by clasp.
8. Gloves. Whites or of bone color or grey. In "gamuza" or leather.
